mesh was a formal experiment exploring the combination of visual media platforms. The moving images were created by overlaying footage shot on super-8 and printed texts on 16mm transferred to super VHS, combined with vhs footage of natural phenomena.

The super-8 footage was shot at the foreshore of Tsim Sha Tsui in Hong Kong in the public space adjacent to the Cultural Centre. The structure has elevated walkways and connected bridges that act as protection from the weather. At this time, retirees (mostly men) gathered in the space to converse and chat. The super-8 footage captured the silhouettes of this gathering.

The super-8 footage was transferred to super-VHS and combined with printed text on 16mm and vhs footage using a video switchboard. The effect flattened the visual sources onto one 2- dimensional plane. The texts of the silhouette figures appear to synchronise in their movements. The scanlines were an artefact from the transfer from analogue to digital video.
