In 1998, Indonesian President Suharto stepped down in the wake of the anti-Chinese riots, marking the end of 32 years of dictatorship. When a nascent Jakarta meets the emerging internet and an increasingly open media landscape, how can video and media art contribute to shape a society that moves beyond being dictated by a single authority?
VMAC Forum is pleased to invite Forum Lenteng, an Indonesian art collective, for an enlightening cultural exchange. Founded in 2003, Forum Lenteng is dedicated to providing open access to knowledge for its members and encouraging critical discussion of social issues outside of a single narrative. Yuki Aditya, the Festival Director of ARKIPEL – Jakarta International Documentary and Experimental Film Festival, will share the founding of Forum Lenteng, the role of media art knowledge in encouraging exploration of social issues in Indonesia, and how ARKIPEL engages with the global narratives through video.
1998年，印尼總統蘇哈托在排華騷亂的陰霾下下台，結束長達32年的獨裁統治。當新生的雅加達碰上方興未艾的互聯網和日益開放的媒體環境，媒體藝術如何推動不再「定於一尊」的社會面貌？
是次 VMAC Forum 邀請了印尼藝術群體 Forum Lenteng 進行交流。Forum Lenteng 成立於 2003 年，旨在透過製作、紀錄、研究及開放發行等形式，為成員開放知識，並鼓勵在單一論述以外批判社會議題。其年度節目 ARKIPEL 國際紀錄及實驗電影節匯聚來自世界各地作品，逐漸受到公眾及國際關注。 ARKIPEL 節總監 Yuki Aditya 將介紹 Forum Lenteng 的成立背景，媒體藝術教育如何鼓勵探索社會議題，以及 ARKIPEL 電影節如何透過影像回應世界。
