Recalling: Soundwalk at Wong Nai Chung Gap Trail
Wong Nai Chung Gap Trail presents a historically and sonically rich experience of Hong Kong, yet is often overlooked. Based on his personal listening experience at different hours of the day, artist Sing Jantzen Tse rediscovers the soundscape of the Wong Nai Chung Gap Trail. Through his field recordings captured at spots along the trail, including the entrance, the water catchment area, the lawn at “Sek Yuen”, and the pillbox, our ears catch the acoustic transformations composed by the birds and insects during the sunset hours, before our eyes fully adapt to the dark. Artists Brian Chu Yin-woo (wo4), Fiona Lee Wing-shan, Nerve, and Paul Yip were invited by Tse to join him improvising acoustic creations together at these locations, to respond to each other’s observations of the Trail in listening and sound. We would like to invite you to go on your own sonic journey along the Wong Nai Chung Gap Trail after watching this video, to listen and to be in the moment.
