Artmaking for me is the process by which the phantom returns. (a) All those texts, theories, concepts, issues, encountered events and people that have once appeared (or even those that have never really occurred) become phantoms that keep returning. Being haunted as I am, all I can do is place them into my works. For “Video Manifesto 2,” I submitted the work, A few more vomiting will make us get used to it, an attempt to tackle the issue of identity in which I have been entangled for years. From documenting behaviour to narrative and then discourse, the basis of the work is the hybridisation of personal identity and the construction of local culture. It blends together elements from different genres such as documentary, autobiography and fiction, in order to configure a multi-layered narrative structure that mixes reality and fiction.
