Videotage announces the appointment of Janet Chan as a member of our Board of Directors, effective October 2025. This follows the departure of Linda Lai, who wishes to focus on her research and creative endeavours.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Linda for her dedicated service on the Board for the last seven years, and send best wishes to her future artistic and scholarly pursuits. As a research-based transdisciplinary artist and independent scholar, Linda joined the Board in 2018, aside from her involvement in artist collectives ‘Floating Projects’ and ‘Writing Machine Collective’.

Kyle Chung, Board Chairperson of Videotage, said: “We would like to thank Linda for her invaluable contributions to the Board, and warmly welcome Janet to the Videotage family. Janet has initiated various experimental curatorial and research practices and has served in advisory roles for multiple media art programmes. With her critical insights into organisational development and the Asian art ecology, we believe her participation will diversify perspectives and help guide Videotage towards sustained growth in Hong Kong and Asia at this important moment.”

Janet Chan has over twenty years of experience in the local art and cultural field. She held various positions at institutions, with the scope of responsibilities spanning from research, teaching to curating. She specialised in archival research and collection development at the Asia Art Archive from 2007 to 2015. From 2017 to 2023, she was involved in developing interpretative plans and activities for the audience’s engagement with the M+ Collections. Currently, apart from working as an independent art practitioner, Janet also works as an early childhood educator in an alternative school, wherein she sees young children and artists sharing many artistic and creative resemblances. Throughout the past decades, Janet was active in initiating independent art projects and experiments with like-minded practitioners, for she believes it is vital for one to step out of comfort zone from time to time.
