Peter Richards is a Belfast-based artist working across photography, installation, and performance. His practice explores how we form understanding, subscribe to truth, and suspend disbelief to uphold chosen convictions—themes rooted in a long-standing critical questioning of how personal and collective beliefs are constructed. His work frequently examines mediated experiences, particularly how the interplay of image, text, and time shapes perception and memory.

For And Time, Again, Richards presents early video works alongside analogue pinhole photography. By contrasting performative attempts to “do nothing” with real-time screen presentations and slow image-making processes, he seeks to engage audiences in questioning the role of the viewer, the reliability of visual narrative, and the speed of modern society.

Richards exhibits internationally and was part of Northern Ireland’s inaugural presentation at the 51st Venice Biennale in 2005.
