Auditory Scenes: A study of seascape is a soundscape project of the artist's study of
his father's journey of the sea.
After developing the project with the support of Videotage for two months, Edwin Lo will present the
outcome of his study of seascape on the 2nd of May (Sat) at Videotage.
Auditory Scenes: A study of seascape is a project inspired by the artist's family background as fishermen.
Fascinated by the sound and visual of the sea journey, such as the sight of enormous oil tankers and the oil
transportation process, the investigation explored the current statues of his father and changes faced as a
fisherman. The artist collected audio materials in the sea and explored ways to project personal emotion into
a sound composition. The presentation will also compare Lo’s past and current experiences on researching
and sound composing, and to further explore sound art as a platform to reach the audiences.
Edwin Lo (b. 1984) is a sound artist, field recordist and phonographer from Hong Kong graduated
from School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong. The early works of the artist focus
on video. He is now frequently dealing with the issue of sound. Through different experiments on
sound -- either on a computer or during the recording process -- Edwin Lo tries to develop his own
philosophy and language on sound and listening: thinking sound as an object of desire, as haunting
memories and experiences, articulation of our consciousness, awareness on and the evolution of listening.
