Pixel as vapour, colour as mist. What happens if we start to localize the non-localisable? There is always a map regarding matters appearing on the verge of perception - desire, memory, a hint of smell or a lingering of touch. These affects surface occasionally here and there but they always leave a trace of their existence. Images are essentially traces.
People as vapour, desire as mist. What happens if we begin to multiply the stable and the original? Relations are always about multiplications what I have with you will endlessly repeated and proliferated with all the others. The definition of promiscuity is that of fluids the only thing that can be repeated is what is different to itself. The constant change of ebb and flow maps out the flux of desire: we don1t want more of the same, only more of the new.
Mapping Vapour is the second installment of the Matching Two by Four series. It is a repeat of something completely different.

About Jamsen Law ùµ`³ù
Jamsen Law is a prominent young experimental artist in Hong Kong. Before his graduation from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the University of Hong Kong, he has already actively participated in theatrical and video productions and was one of the core members of a multimedia art group, 20 Beans + A Box. Their works include Every Single Other Territories (My Own Idiosyncrasy Garden) in Hong Kong Arts Festival 1998. He now continues to collaborate with dancers and musicians. His independent video works, such as Getting Used to Run, has got the Gold Award (MTV) in Hong Kong Independent Film and Video 1997 and the Award of Excellence in Image Forum 1998, Japan. He also had his solo screenings in Toronto, Tokyo, and Busan. He taught at the School of Creative Media in City University of Hong Kong between 2000 and 2004, at the same time, he gave guest lectures and workshops in other local institutes. He is now doing his research on media aesthetics in Institute of Advanced Media Art and Science in Japan and is one of the directors of Microwave International Media Art Festival in Hong Kong.

Record Himself (Lift) explores the mechanisms of the video transmitter and receiver. As the artist moves between floors via an elevator lift, the video camera / recorder / transmitter / receiver acts as a space meter and locator. Losing and regaining the signal and the level of noise becomes another tool to measure a living space or architecture.

Ng received his BA from the department of Fine Arts of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (1997) and MA from the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London (2000). NG actively participates in exhibitions in Hong Kong and overseas. Participated exhibitions include 1/36 runaway spatial tram projects Helsinki-Hong Kong (Tram no.T3, Helsinki 2000), Glasses and Blinker (Contemporary Art Gallery, Switzerland, 2001), and Polarflex (AROMA Gallery, Berlin 2001). He was the Artist-in-residence at Ecole Cantonale d¡¦art du Valais in Switzerland, 2001.

About Mathias Woo
Mathias was born in Hong Kong. He studied architecture at the Architectural Association, London and the University of Hong Kong. He explores the spirit of architecture through theatre, text, video images and multi-media platforms. Woo joined Zuni Icosahedron in 1989, and has produced and directed prolific number of theatre works including 2001: a Hong Kong Odyssey; The Life and Times of Louis I. Kahn; Looking for Mies; Sigmund Freud in Search of Chinese Matter and Mind; 18 Springs; A Lover¡¦s Discourse; East Wing West Wing Series and Four Grand Inventions. Woo writes regularly for newspapers and magazines on arts, architecture, media and politics. His latest published works include a book on Hong Kong architecture entitled HK Style. I had a mental stroke caused by an urge to use a tool. Walking in the City with the new tool enables oneself (both the cameraman and the drifter) a wonderful drifting experience. This follows the rule of drifting with the prestige Situationist aesthetics. I was introduced into a playful game. And in a playful spirit, a rule was set to produce a 360-degree vision, exhaustingly walking through the urban space. The raw images produced by the tool are in like a flattened donut shape. A new definition of "framing" dawned on me. How could I merge a safe-to-eat donut and a 360-degree-all-vision? The daunting walking experience tinkers with my feel for art more than the technology itself. I feel I have been reborn, where I have to learn how to walk and see again. The tool helps me to remap the urban space. I am reborn, while the city is remapped through my ¡§new eyes¡¨. About Reine Wong
Reine is fascinated in Spatial Study and New Media Arts, mounted from environmental design to the high-end technology arts. She is interested in both experimental and documentary film. She brings an abstract observation about life in ¡§Slow Dance¡¨, an experimental video which was screened in Asian Film Festival 2004 (Hong Kong) and Young Talent, New Cinema 2004 (Taipei). Her first documentary film ¡§Dined and Wined to Satiety¡¨ about Tai Pa Dong, the vanishing temporary space was screened in Singapore International Documentary Film Festival 2004. Having set up ¡§Take A St/Roll¡¨, an exclusive exhibition of the 360-degree vision at Para/Site Art Space (Hong Kong) in 2005, she continues to make several donut videos from the abstract perspectives. She was a Bachelor graduate in Environmental Design in School of Design, Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She is currently a Master of Fine Art student, majored in Media Design and Technology in School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong.

Ernest Fung started independent video production in 1991 while he was a student in interior design. His work On the Road won the Gold award (MTV) in the Hong Kong Independent Short Film and Video Awards in 1996. Crossing over between commercial and independent film industries, his first feature film Dangerous Girls (1997) was programmed by ITV. In 1998, he finished his second film Silver City. His videos include Alice in Hong Kong have been exhibited in Japan, France and Germany. Putting together ghosts of goodness, surreal pre-war buildings, and traditional Chinese 9 square calligraphy paper pattern, you get Very Fantastic, an animation short about Hong Kong local culture and preservation local heritage, created by Stella So during her study at school of design, Polytechnic University of Hong Kong. Through representing the strange space of Hong Kong streets in a combination of Chinese 9 square calligraphy paper, Very Fantastic is a 2D animation expressing Hong Kong views in pre-war period, to show how fantastic of the Hong Kong building and how importance to reserve Hong Kong own culture to be our heritage. Devote Very Fantastic to my dearest dad, ma and grandma.
Very Fantastic transforms the traditional Chinese nine square calligraphy papers into a poetic story of where the ¡§suite of the good ghosts¡¨ (Chinese name of the video) is situated. The video explores the possible of space, identity, and preservation of Hong Kong unique heritage.

About LAM Wai-kit ªL¼z¼ä
Born in 1966 in Hong Kong. Lives and works in Hong Kong (China) and Ferrara (Italy). She graduated with her BA (Hons) in Fine Art at the Goldsmiths College, University of London, UK in 1996. In 2003, she graduated with her MFA at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her media included photography, video art, sound and mixed media. Her research topics included the construction of identity and the questions of existence. She concerns about the relationship between individuals and surrounding circumstances; and tries to reconstruct images and daily experiences in order to search for the notion and representation of identification. From 1996, she held several solo and group exhibitions in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Italy and Canada. Her works have been collected by the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, and also private collections in the UK, Italy, Canada, America, Australia and Hong Kong. From 2003, Lam is one of the main collaborators of the Italian AMAE Artgroup.
